Coconut Allergy Alert and Voluntary Recall of 6-Pack Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF® Bars

Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall today of a small amount of 6-packs of Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF® Bars that were distributed to limited Target and Walmart stores. These 6-packs may contain Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF Bars that are mislabeled with White Chocolate Macadamia CLIF® Bar wrappers with a „Best By‟ date of 16MAY13G1 and do not list coconut in the ingredient statement. Clif is taking this precautionary safety step for people who are allergic to coconut.

A small quantity of Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF Bars were inadvertently placed in White Chocolate Macadamia CLIF Bar wrappers and these mislabeled bars were placed inside correctly labeled Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF Bar 6-pack boxes. The White Chocolate Macadamia wrappers contain advisory allergen labeling which states that the product may contain traces of other tree nuts. Only the product meeting both the following criteria is affected:

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Burch Equipment LLC, North Carolina, is voluntarily recalling 580 cases of whole Athena cantaloupes due to the potential for being contaminated with listeria. FDA and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture are working with Burch Equipment LLC following a random sample of an Athena cantaloupe testing positive for listeria monocytogenes.

Staphylococcus Aureus In Quesito Colombiano, Colombian Style Cheese

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today warned consumers in the Metropolitan New York area not to consume “Quesito Colombiano, Colombian style Cheese” made by Productos Tita Corp., 70-06 88th Street, Glendale, New York 11385 due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination. The recalled Colombian style cheese under the Brand name “Tita” is contained in 8oz. clear plastic pouches or tubs with a plant code of #36-8440 and with a stamped code of “AUG 10 2012” stamped beneath the label bar code.

Whole Foods Market® in FLORIDA issues voluntary recall of prepared foods items made with raw onions due to potential health risk

Whole Foods Market in the state of Florida only has initiated a voluntary recall of certain fresh food items sold in prepared foods departments, as well as one item sold in seafood departments of their 17 Florida stores. The items are being recalled as they could have been made using raw yellow onions processed by Gills Onions, LLC, which initiated a recall on their product due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Cool Creations, LLC Recalls Specific Packages Of Products Containing Onions Because Of Possible Health Risk Due To Gills Onions Expanded Recall

Cool Creations, LLC of North Kansas City, Missouri is recalling specific packages of products containing onions (see product list below), because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Arthur Dogswell LLC, Los Angeles, CA 90025, is voluntarily recalling 1051 cartons packed as either 10 or 50 packages per case of Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins because it has the potential to contain propylene glycol. High levels of propylene glycol in the treats could result in serious injury to cats.
