The recent expansion of the Reser’s Fine Foods product recall for potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination has impacted select prepared foods offerings sold at Giant Eagle, Inc. locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia. As a result, Giant Eagle has implemented a voluntary recall of Diced Summer Slaw, Diced Summer Salad and several Grab and Go combo meals that may include Diced Summer Slaw.

FDA takes two important actions on drug shortages

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is taking two actions to further enhance the agency’s ongoing efforts to prevent and resolve drug shortages, a significant public health threat that can delay, and in some cases even deny, critical care for patients. Following the President’s 2011 Executive Order on reducing drug shortages, the number of new shortages in 2012 was 117, down from 251 in 2011.

Tennessee and Maryland Firms Initiate Recall Based on Reser’s Fine Foods Recall

Following the Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc. (“Reser’s”) recall where select Reser’s products were recalled due to the potential of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, Taylor Farms Tennessee, Inc. (“TFTN”) and Taylor Farms Maryland, Inc. (“TFMD”) are voluntarily recalling a limited number of products that contain Reser’s recalled ingredients.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting hospitals, health care providers, veterinarians, and patients of a voluntary recall of certain human and veterinary products produced and distributed for sterile use by Specialty Medicine Compounding Pharmacy of South Lyon, Mich.

FDA to complete phase-out of chlorofluorocarbon inhalers

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will complete its phase-out of all inhaler medical products containing chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) by Dec. 31, 2013. This effort is to comply with an international treaty to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the worldwide production of numerous substances, including CFCs, which contribute to ozone depletion.
